THE FACE OF THE UNSEEN. MOORS4FOOD WAS CREATED IN ALMERÍA, SOUTHERN SPAIN – THE GREENHOUSE EMPIRE THAT FEEDS EUROPE. AMONG THE ENDLESS WHITE PLASTIC PLAINS LIVE THE WORKERS WHO HARVEST ITS WEALTH: MEN AND WOMEN SURVIVING IN INFORMAL CAMPS BUILT FROM THE DISCARDED REMAINS OF AGRICULTURE. I SAW SHELTERS STITCHED FROM TORN TARPS AND CORRUGATED METAL, THE ARCHITECTURE OF NECESSITY. THIS SERIES IS NOT REPORTAGE; IT IS A REVERSAL OF PERSPECTIVE. MOORS4FOOD EXPOSES MODERN DAY SERVITUDE THROUGH THE INTIMACY OF A PORTRAIT – NOT AS ACCUSATION, BUT AS RECOGNITION.
TYPOGRAPHIES OF DIGNITY. THE PEOPLE I PORTRAY WEAR THEIR STORIES LIKE SCARS. THEIR FACES ARE ARCHIVES, THEIR GAZES CHRONICLES. IN THE SERIES, THERE ARE WRITING MARKS ON THE SKIN, A TYPOGRAPHY WITHOUT LEGIBILITY. THESE LINES ARE THE TRANSLATION OF THOSE STORIES TOLD TO ME THAT ARE NEVER PUBLISHED—TOO DANGEROUS, TOO INTIMATE, TOO PERSONAL. I DREW EACH OF THESE MARKS TO CREATE A LANGUAGE THAT EXISTS WITHOUT SPEAKING. IT STANDS FOR THE UNSPEAKABLE: IDENTITY MORE VISIBLE THAN ANY WORD COULD EVER BE FOR IT. MOORS4FOOD CLAIMS THAT SILENCE CAN BE LOUDER THAN LANGUAGE.
TRANSLATING TESTIMONY. THEIR FACES CARRY UNREADABLE MAPS. I INSCRIBED THOSE MAPS AS LINES, I WORK PHOTOGRAPHICALLY—THE CAMERA AS AN INSTRUMENT OF LISTENING. EVERY PORTRAIT IS CREATED THROUGH THE INTERPLAY OF PROXIMITY AND RESPECT. I PHOTOGRAPH, STUDY LIGHT, STRUCTURE, POSTURE. THEN I TRANSFER THE IMAGE TO CANVAS, WORKING WITH ACRYLICS, BRUSHES, FINGERS, AND CLOTHS UNTIL THE FACE REGAINS ITS SKIN. LINES BECOME VEINS, COLOR BECOMES BREATH. EVERY FINISHED WORK, LIKE ALL MY SERIES, HAS A UV COATING.
TESTIMONY AND CONTEMPORARY VIEW. MOORS4FOOD IS NOT A PROJECT ABOUT MIGRATION – IT IS A PORTRAIT OF PRESENT EUROPEAN LIFE. MOORS4FOOD DOES NOT REPLACE JUSTICE, BUT IT CAN BREAK AWAY ANONYMITY. I DO NOT SEE THOSE DEPENDED AS OBJECTS, BUT AS FACTS. THESE PORTRAITS ARE THE EVIDENCE OF A SYSTEM THAT LIVES ON INVISIBILITY.
